Workshop: Journaling

Soul Expression: Dialogue With The Almighty

This journaling workshop is interactive in nature; participants are able to see and try different styles and means of keeping a spiritual journal. On occasion, we have altered it to coincide with a holiday or season; e.g., “Love Letters” for Valentine’s Day, “Spring: New Growth,” etc. Also, this can be specifically Journaling As Worship.

In Psalms From the Pathway, Lois Williams offers a precious gift and a warm invitation. The gift is a window into her heart’s journey. The invitation is to step forward in one’s own journey toward God’s grace-filled heart. Both comforting and challenging, her words probe deeply into a relationship with our extraordinary God. Her imaginative free verse reflects a beauty of thought and reveals an ability to glean understandable truth from everyday observations.  In deep, penetrating soul language, Psalms From the Pathway uncovers the hidden thoughts within us and points to the source of life, Jesus Christ.

There is music and harmony in the soul attuned to God. Music, in all its glory, its multitude of chords and intricate melodies, begins with a simple seven-note scale. God fashions soul harmony in many ways, just as He is the creative force behind these sounds that enchant our ears and thrill our senses when composers present their masterpieces for our enjoyment.

In Heart Chords Lois Williams has chosen seven themes: Longing, listening, learning, leaning, living, loving, lauding. Within these unique yet inseparable life applications, she finds, and shares, peace and harmony with the lover of our souls.

Lois is a contemporary psalmist, in the mold of the psalmist-musician, David. Like him, she plucks heartstrings with her pen, setting her heart free in both praise and poignancy to her King of Kings. There is no doubt that as you sit down to read, your soul will stand up to sing! This book would also make a special gift for any occasion.

Pages is Lois Williams’ third book of devotional reflections. It is a collection of observations, musings, and prayers taken from the pages of her journals. The title is taken from one of the first meditations she ever wrote as she pondered how the pages of our lives are seemingly tossed about and scattered by winds of change and circumstance. Even so, the truth is that God lovingly takes those pages and binds them together to create a precious book; a book that David, the psalmist, describes in Psalm 139:15-16. “My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”

Pages is more than poetry. Each meditation will take you on a journey through God’s Word, from Genesis to Revelation. You may enjoy Pages as a bedside devotional, or ponder each reflection with your book club or small group. However you experience Pages, it will help you grow in God’s grace as you dig into His Word.

After a devastating diagnosis, Lois Williams experienced a life-saving surgery and a long recovery. Along the way as God gently guided her, she documented her daily struggles, insecurities and joys. The result of this is Signposts: Direction for the Journey. Each segment records a “signpost” for the week, a word from Scripture that moved and touched her along the way. She says, “I know that everyone is taking some sort of journey and though mine is not any more fraught with pain and fear than anyone else’s, my hope is that what God has made clear to me might be helpful to others.”

People are saying:  “Another fantastic book by Lois Williams, Signposts is a great read for anyone who can relate to walking a tough road. Lois is consistently candid about the journey’s ups and downs, and how God is always there to light the way.”

“An intimate journey into a Proverbs 31 woman’s most defining moments. Told with unusual grace and poignancy, Signposts holds much wisdom and truth for those who also journey with the Lord through life’s many hills and valleys. Be encouraged and blessed by the reading!”

Single Talk Titles

False Green Eyelashes

In this talk, Lois gets us laughing as she talks about her experiences in drama as a child, and then discusses the masks we all wear, the reasons why we hide behind them and some encouragements to find our true "faces."

Using scripture in Isaiah 43:1-4 to illustrate that we are made and loved by God, accepted and cared for by Him. And He is able to help us live a life of integrity and honesty, the person He has created us to be.

We are all walking a pathway. This presentation discusses the ways God interacts with us, wherever we happen to be along our pathway. Theme verse: Proverbs 4:18 “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter until the full light of day.”

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda

We can paralyze ourselves by thinking we can’t do something. I used to call this talk “Paralysis”, but it was suggested that I change it to the above! I use the example of how I had thought I’d had polio as a child, and convinced myself I could not do certain things. And thoroughly weakened myself in the process so that I couldn’t. Theme verse: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Words of Joy

How we can have the real joy of the Lord, whatever our circumstances. Theme verse: Jeremiah 15:16: “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I have been called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Single Talks

Father-Daughter Event

A Father’s Blessing—A Daughter’s Heritage
Using my personal testimony of interaction with my own father, it is possible to let a father know just how much his approval and blessing can mean to his daughter.

Mother-Daughter Event

Baskets of Joy

Similar to the above, but with a Mother’s Day emphasis. Using my experiences as a motherless daughter, encouraging mothers and daughters to cherish their relationships, and showing how God’s tenderness can fill in the gaps.

Theme verse: Psalm 78: 1, 6-7 “I will open my mouth in a parable…that the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.”

This includes some of my original poems which tell the Christmas story, with anecdotes and personal illustrations in between. These meditations have been written over the past 17 years…I write one every Christmas as our greeting to friends and family. I’ve put them together to make the story live in perhaps a new way.
